Do you know where you are? Do you know where you’ve been? Do you know who you were then?
The lovely and talented Star St. Germain, along with her cohort John C. Worsley, have answered some of these questions for you, in the form of an album, and a book. The album was composed independently by both parties, one working before the other, the other working having never heard the one. The results are remarkable, wonderful, at times chilling, at times aching, and on the whole beautiful. I intentionally left the player tab open for a while, so whenever I re-opened my browser I would get this fantastic music out of nowhere that I had forgotten was waiting for me. The book is amazing too, it plays with graphic forms of storytelling in remarkable ways that define, for me, why “comics” are a serious medium.
They’ve built a lovely little flash player that allows you to mix between the two artist’s halves, to construct your own version of the story. It’s a fascinating conceit, and one that works remarkably well given the spaces that this one occupies. Do yourself a favor, and check it out.
[edit] Oh I almost forgot: She’s playing as part of This Can’t End Well this Friday, at The Uptown in Oakland! Also appearing are Victoria & the Vaudevillians & Unwoman! Doors are at 9. You should totally go to this.
